Discover how single-tree digital forest twins—virtual 3D replicas of individual trees built from LiDAR data—are revolutionizing forest management, with this webinar demonstrating their creation from data acquisition to GIS visualization.

Webinar information
Forestry is entering a new digital era through the use of single-tree digital forest twins—virtual replicas of individual trees created from 3D point clouds and sensor data that mirror physical and biological conditions. These digital twins provide detailed, real-time insight into forest structure and health, enabling managers to make data-driven decisions for sustainability, productivity, and ecological balance. Central to their creation is LiDAR technology, which captures high-resolution forest measurements across scales. This webinar will demonstrate how digital forest twins are created from acquisition to GIS outputs.

In this webinar, hear from an urban forestry expert on how urban wood from natural disasters can be utilized for new purposes.
Webinar information
The field of disaster preparedness and response has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years.
We have learned how to better coordinate our resources for emergency planning and response. We have even learned how to make our communities more resilient to future disasters. All the while, increasingly extreme events strike our nation every year.
However, often overlooked are key questions about our urban forests: What do such events mean for our urban tree canopy? How should we manage it before a disaster strikes? What should we do with the wood waste afterwards? And how can we turn the substantial nuisance costs of woody debris removal and disposal into savings?
In this webinar, presenters will discuss the latest trends and techniques local communities can use to transform downed trees into a valuable community asset. Additionally, the speakers will discuss how having a robust urban wood utilization plan in place before a disaster strikes can conserve a community's precious time and other resources in the aftermath.
Is this webinar for you?
This webinar is intended for emergency management, public works, and municipal emergency department professionals. Urban foresters and those interested in how a city manages its wood in the wake of disasters will benefit from this webinar as well.

This webinar with P.J. Melton, a non-forester, will introduce viewers to the concept of climate-smart forestry and will share ongoing work to develop a standard definition and build relationships between green building practitioners and people developing climate-smart forest practices and products.

Webinar information
The excitement around engineered mass timber has hit a fever pitch in the U.S. green building community because CLT, glulams, and similar products have many attractive properties that more conventional materials like concrete and steel can’t match. One of the biggest attractions is a lower carbon footprint.
There’s no silver bullet for our carbon problems, though, and focus has zoomed over the last few years. People are still looking to optimize the role of working forests in carbon sequestration and storage, but many also want to ensure that forest health and resilience don’t fall by the wayside as they adopt these newer materials. So, architects, engineers, and contractors have teamed up with foresters, landowners, and NGOs to explore the broader idea of “climate-smart” forestry.
What does that mean, and where is it all headed?
This webinar with P.J. Melton, a non-forester, will introduce viewers to the concept of climate-smart forestry and will share ongoing work to develop a standard definition and build relationships between green building practitioners and people developing climate-smart forest practices and products.
