Young Professionals - Get Involved with Upcoming Events!

SAF’s Young professionals, or YPs, are professional members under the age of 40 that are not enrolled at a college or university. The YP Event Planning Team serves this diverse group by organizing several events a year to help YPs grow into successful and engaged mid-career professionals. These events are held virtually through ForestEd, so YPs can connect from anywhere.

These sessions are available only to SAF members. Participating in these virtual sessions hosted by SAF's young professionals is a great way to receive, contribute, and add value to your SAF membership. JOIN SAF to engage in SAF's Young Professionals group and tap into the growing membership benefits.

Communicating Non-Traditional Forestry Experience
Applying for jobs and thinking about career options has always been a challenge for students and recent graduates. Industries shift and evolve over time and it's important that young professionals are prepared for shifts and changes. In this webinar participants will learn how to think about their skills they've developed as students and how those can apply to other job opportunities. Our guest speaker Dr. Christine Carmichael will talk about her interest in forestry and how she's managed to turn that into a business.

Silviculture in Practice: Classical to Ecological and Beyond
Modern forestry demands a nuanced understanding of how traditional and emerging management paradigms intersect. This webinar explores the overlaps and divergences between classical silviculture and ecological forestry approaches. A panel of experts will share how 21st-century silvicultural methods and advanced technologies, including LiDAR and remote sensing, are reshaping field practices. The discussion will emphasize how these evolving frameworks build forest resiliency to address contemporary environmental challenges. Attendees will gain practical insights into applying these adaptive approaches to complex, real-world land management scenarios.
