This package contains all four webinars from the SAF-hosted Career Pathways webinar series held from August 14 through November 11, 2025. The webinars contained in this package are briefly summarized below. All webinars are to be held at 2:00 pm ET on their date unless otherwise noted.
August 14, 2025: Starting and Switching: Academic and Career Tracks - Join experts in the field as they explore traditional and non-traditional pathways into forestry careers, the process of changing fields mid-career, and advice on finding mentors in the sector.
September 11, 2025: Personal Growth: Networking and Resume Building - Join us for an engaging webinar featuring professionals from the forestry field as they share insights on developing effective networking strategies and crafting strong, industry-ready resumes. Attendees will gain practical tips and hear real-world examples to help navigate the competitive landscape of forestry careers.
October 9, 2025: Personal Growth: Leadership Development - For the third webinar in this series, presenters will explore ways to further develop your forestry career. Topics include developing leadership skills, conflict resolution, and joining a board of directors.
November 6, 2025: Putting It All Together: A Panel with Forestry Professionals - In the culmination of this four-part series, participants will interact with a panel of forestry professionals. Questions can be asked live, as well as submitted ahead of time, during this interactive panel session.

Dr. Nan C. Pond is a forest biometrician and data scientist. She is the Vice President at Nature-Based Research and Monitoring at Rubicon Carbon, where she leads a team responsible for investment due diligence and ongoing quality assurance and monitoring of nature-based carbon credit project investments. Nan has been a member of SAF for over 20 years. She was the recipient of the 2020 SAF Young Forester Leadership Award. Nan has been a member of SAF chapters in Michigan, Florida, Washington D.C., and New Mexico, and Massachusetts, and is currently the Secretary of New England SAF.

Husband and Father of four, Hollis works for Washington State’s Small Forest Landowner Office. Over the last decade he has worked in timber sales layout and forest regulation. He currently assists small forest landowners in navigating Washington state Forest Practices Rules, regulation, and permitting. He is a subject matter expert in Washington state Forest Practices Rules. He also has a professional interest in forest policy and agroforestry.

Jimi Scheid manages CAL FIRE's Reforestation Services Program out of the Lewis A. Moran Reforestation Center in Davis, California. He works with a diverse and educated staff of foresters, scientists, analysts, and numerous external cooperators working to unpinch the challenges of the reforestation pipeline in building workforce and capacity to meet the state's large reforestation need. Prior to joining the program in 2021, Jimi worked for the Department's Urban & Community Forestry Program for 13 years and 2 years before that as a forestry technician for a private timber company. A forestry graduate of SUNY-ESF, he is California Registered Professional Forester, ISA Certified Arborist/Urban Forestry Specialist, and a member of SAF for more than 20 years.
Emily Silver

Dr. Emily Silver is the Associate Chairperson, Director of Graduate Studies, and Associate Professor of human dimensions of forestry. In 2024, Emily served as the interim Michigan State University Forest Carbon and Climate Program director in addition to providing leadership and research support to the FCCP team. She is interested in the effect of humans on natural resources availability and quality using self-reported and observational data on human behavior, specifically on attitudes, values, preferences, and intentions.

Madison Gore is the current Chair of the Oklahoma Division of SAF. She attended Oklahoma State University, obtaining her bachelor's degree in Forestry in 2020 and master's degree in Natural Resource Economics & Human Dimensions in 2022. Her master's research included evaluating the economic impacts of Wildlife Management Areas in Oklahoma, which provided important data for her work today. Currently, Madison is working with state agencies, the USDA Forest Service, and non-profit partners in the effort to acquire Oklahoma's 1st State Forest, the Musket Mountain Forest in southeast Oklahoma.

Tom has been an SAF member since 1992. He earned my BS in Forestry and an MS in Natural Resources from Cal-Poly Humboldt in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Tom has worked in both the land management and wood procurement areas of forestry. His career started on the West Coast, but he has lived and worked in Eastern Tennessee for the past 18 years. Tom was the Tennessee Tree Farm Chair from 2007 through 2008, the Tennessee SFI SIC Chair from 2014-2017, KT Vice-Chair in 2018, KT chair in 2019, KT Policy Chair for 2020, and the E6 Sustainability and Certification Community of Interest Vice-Chair in 2022. In his current role for the Forest Stewardship Council US, he assists the forest management certificate holders in the US.
John Snow

John Snow is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, qualified Tree Risk Assessor, and one of the first Certified Urban and Community Foresters (CUCF). John also serves as President of the Florida Urban Forestry Council and sits on ISA’s Florida Chapter Government Affairs Committee. He brings a unique, data-driven perspective that treats trees as vital community assets requiring thoughtful, long-term planning. His work goes beyond tree care, encompassing roles as an urban forestry policymaker, educator, and environmental steward.
Kristen Waring
Professor and Associate Director of the School of Forestry
Northern Arizona University
Dr. Kristen Waring is a Professor of Silviculture and Applied Forest Health and Associate Director in the School of Forestry at Northern Arizona University (NAU). She specializes in utilizing silviculture to mitigate challenging and complex forest health problems, often through interdisciplinary research and collaborations. Her research and teaching activities span western North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico), Costa Rica, Europe, and Indonesia.
