Natural disasters result in urban tree debris which most often gets disposed of, with no consideration of higher use as urban wood. Finding a way to incorporate this debris into the local culture of the impacted community, is one way to share the value that urban wood products can bring.

Learning objectives
Upon successful completion of this webinar, you will be able to:
1. Describe how disaster debris from Hurricane Katrina was used to restore the USS Constitution.
2. Identify avenues and key partners needed for successful urban wood reuse.
3. Discuss how usage of urban wood from emergency events can create lasting contributions to heritage and culture for the community.
Rubric
Successful completion of the webinar is measured by participating in the entire webinar and completing the evaluation.

CFEs
Upon successful completion of this webinar, you will earn 1.0 CFEs in Category 1. You will need to complete a short quiz with a 80% correct rate to receive your CFE. CFEs will automatically be added to your CFE record located on www.eforester.org by the end of the day (11:59 pm ET).
This program is currently being evaluated for ISA CEUs.
For ISA pre-approved webinars, SAF will report ISA CEU completions on a monthly basis for ISA CEU approved programs.
Certificate

Walter Passmore
State Urban Forester
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE)
Walter Passmore is the State Urban Forester for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). He is responsible for managing the Urban and Community Forestry Program which provides technical assistance, information, outreach, education, and administers grants. Walter held previous positions as Urban Forester for the cities of Palo Alto, California (2012-2021), Austin, Texas (2007-2012), Dallas, Texas (2006-2007), Community Assistance Forester and County Forester for the Mississippi Forestry Commission (1994-2006), and Forester with the USDA Forest Service (1989-1994). He has served in various supervisory and command positions on more than 600 incidents from wildfires to hurricanes. His interests include woodworking, gardening, and travelling.
