Keeping Forests focuses on expanding markets for the private landowners in the Southern US who steward private forests. Laura and her team have been working on a variety of new ways to reach private landowners. They are testing different social media techniques and behavioral modification communication pathways commonly used in the medical field. In this Sustainability and Certification Community of Interest webinar, she will discuss the latest news from Keeping Forests, new techniques they are using to reach landowners, and information about those results, both positive and negative.

Learning objectives
Upon successful completion of this webinar, you will be able to:
1. Identify the mission of Keeping Forests.
2. Use social media to reach private landowners.
3. Apply communication strategies adapted from the medical field to change behaviors.
4. Explain how these communication strategies are applicable to forest certification and sustainability.

Laura's career in forestry spans 20 years. She began her work internationally in Latin America before settling in the southeast. She spent 10 years in various leadership roles at the U.S. Forest Service before launching her consulting practice focused on collaborative conservation. She has been engaged in Keeping Forests since its inception in 2016. Keeping Forests focuses on expanding markets for the private landowners who steward this important resource.

Tom has been an SAF member since 1992. He earned my BS in Forestry and an MS in Natural Resources from Cal-Poly Humboldt in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Tom has worked in both the land management and wood procurement areas of forestry. His career started on the West Coast, but he has lived and worked in Eastern Tennessee for the past 18 years. Tom was the Tennessee Tree Farm Chair from 2007 through 2008, the Tennessee SFI SIC Chair from 2014-2017, KT Vice-Chair in 2018, KT chair in 2019, KT Policy Chair for 2020, and the E6 Sustainability and Certification Community of Interest Vice-Chair in 2022. In his current role for the Forest Stewardship Council US, he assists the forest management certificate holders in the US.
