Dean A. Curfman founded Oak Hill Iron + Wood in 1989 in Morganton, North Carolina. Oak Hill Iron built a reputation as the highest quality and most creative providers of hand-forged items in the region. As time progressed, Curfman and team became known for their ability to create beautiful live edge slab tables, countertops, and barn doors. Today, the shop is comprised of eight highly trained blacksmiths and woodworkers who are continually creating the most imaginative works of art in hand-forged steel and live edge wood slabs.

Alicia Dietz

Alicia Dietz Studios

Alicia Dietz traded a pilot helmet for hand plane, leaving her decade-long career in the US Army to follow her passion for craft, as an urban wood artisan. Dietz takes her personal ethos from the military; craft, labor, dedication, and learning; to the Alicia Dietz Studio. Always looking for a new experiment, Dietz enjoys the creative process. For the past several years, she has incorporated concrete into her urban wood furniture, crafting unique artisanal furniture.

After earning his forestry degree from Purdue University, Joe Lehnen began working for the Virginia Department of Forestry as an area forester. He left that 37 year position in 2016 to assume forestry utilization and marketing oversight for the agency. He also oversees the Virginia Urban Wood Group. Today, Joe is recognized as a national leader in the urban wood movement and has joined efforts with others to establish certification standards for salvaged, reclaimed and urban wood.
