Who We Are

Driven by our land-grant mission, the Forest and Rangeland Stewardship Department at Colorado State University is preparing professionals to tackle natural resource challenges of today through innovative technologies and techniques in field and online instruction. We are building a community of people entrusted with sustaining the world’s forests and rangelands amidst increasing demands for these areas.

Ever since the first forestry course was offered in 1904, we have grown into a department that specializes in forestry, rangeland ecology and management, natural resource management, fire science, restoration ecology and natural resource policy.

The Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) is a service and outreach agency of the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University and provides staffing for the Division of Forestry in the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. As Colorado’s lead state agency for forestry, with 17 field offices across the state, the CSFS provides professional forestry assistance, wildfire mitigation expertise, and outreach and education to help landowners and communities achieve their forest management goals.
