Protecting Whitebark Pine from Mountain Pine Beetle-caused Mortality
Whitebark pine is ecologically a highly-valuable species, often referred to as a “keystone” species in the subalpine ecosystem. Entire communities of whitebark pine are disappearing due, primarily, to interactions between MPB and white pine blister rust. We test two formulations of the semiochemical antiaggregant verbenone to protect individual whitebark pine trees.
